Describe what is visible at the threshold
Is there visible ice along the bottom seal, standing water that froze, or packed snow outside the opening? Note whether the door remains level and whether the opener made an unfamiliar sound. You can report those observations without lifting the seal or reaching underneath the door.
If you heard a bang, see a loose cable, or notice a tilted section, treat that as a mechanical stop-use warning rather than attributing everything to temperature. Do not operate the door again to distinguish the possibilities.
Do not force a stuck bottom edge
Avoid prying beneath the door, striking the panels, or repeatedly running the opener against resistance. Do not increase force settings to overcome the problem. Do not use an open flame. Use only de-icing methods the door manufacturer approves for the installed material; do not improvise with heating tools or chemicals.
Use another entrance if possible. If the garage contains the only accessible vehicle or entrance, state that when requesting assistance. Ask about the actual scheduling and charges offered for your address, not an assumed emergency service.
Separate the immediate fault from the moisture question
After the door has been assessed and made usable, ask whether the bottom seal is torn, displaced, or otherwise needs replacement. Also describe where water or snow accumulates. A seal-replacement quote and a drainage concern are different scopes, so do not assume one repair resolves both.
Keep any previous invoices or product information available. If the same problem has recurred, note the weather conditions and visible water location each time. A short history can be more helpful than a series of attempted adjustments.
Plan the next cold-weather discussion
Ask the contractor for maintenance instructions specific to the installed seal, panels, and opener. Confirm which observations a homeowner can make safely and which work requires service. Do not accept a general 'winter package' without a written explanation of the tasks included.
