Do not try to straighten it
Do not pull down the high side, push up the low side, or loosen brackets to make the door level. Avoid the release handle on an open or visibly damaged door. Springs, cables, and associated hardware can carry dangerous tension, and an unstable door may move unexpectedly.
If a vehicle is underneath or inside the garage, do not move it through a compromised opening. Explain the access limitation when you call so the contractor can discuss the situation before arrival.

Describe what changed
Tell the contractor whether the door became uneven while opening, while closing, or after an impact. A suddenly tilted door and a longstanding small floor gap are different reports. You do not have to measure the difference beneath a suspended door.
A photograph from a safe distance can preserve the position you found. Share it only if the contractor provides an appropriate method. This website's call path does not collect uploaded inspection photographs.
- Which side appears higher when viewed from outside.
- Whether the door is fully closed, partly open, or stuck overhead.
- Visible hanging cable or displaced roller, without touching it.
- Any previous work or impact associated with the change.
Keep diagnosis broader than one visible part
A crooked position does not prove that the track alone needs repair. Ask the technician to explain what caused the uneven movement and whether other components were affected. Repositioning a visible part without addressing the underlying fault may not answer the original problem.
Avoid purchasing a cable or spring from a photograph before the door system has been identified. Replacement compatibility and the condition of surrounding hardware are questions for the inspection.
Agree on a safe return to use
Before work begins, confirm the proposed repair, part descriptions, diagnostic charges, and any additional work that would need your approval. Ask what happens if inspection finds the door cannot be safely returned to operation during that visit.
Before resuming everyday use, have the contractor explain the completed work and demonstrate normal operation. Keep the invoice and any restrictions or follow-up recommendations. Do not treat a temporarily repositioned door as a completed repair without that explanation.
