Separate a service problem from an emergency
If anyone is trapped, injured, or in immediate danger, use emergency services. A garage door referral number is not an emergency-response line.
For a mechanical failure without immediate danger, keep children, pets, and bystanders away. A door that looks stable can still move unexpectedly if a cable, spring, or track has failed. Do not walk or drive underneath a partly raised damaged door.
When the garage cannot be secured
Explain that the door is open and cannot be secured when you call. If there is a separate safe entrance, use it and avoid the door’s path. Do not improvise supports, ropes, clamps, or a method of forcing the door closed.
The receiving contractor should discuss what is possible for your equipment and location. Ask about the actual appointment window and any after-hours or diagnostic charge. This website does not promise 24-hour service or a particular arrival time.
What the first assessment should resolve
The contractor needs to determine what failed, whether the door is safe to operate, and what repair can restore controlled movement. A temporary arrangement, if offered, should come with clear use limitations and a follow-up plan.
Before approving work, ask for the scope and price. Keep a record of any replaced components and instructions about operation after the visit.
